7.5hp Mercury ignition question

My 1978 Mercury 7.5hp outboard ran just fine before it accidently fell over on its side a hit the pavement. Now it won't start or even fire once when the pull start cord is pulled.

This motor has two coils and two spark plugs (one for each cylinder) The right side coil (Top cyclinder) spark plug works fine when a spark plug is attached to the coil mounted on the right hand side. A nice spark is produced when the plug is removed and attached to a ground wire to the block. The same good spark plug and same good plug wire, when attached to the left side coil, and tested has no spark at all.

NOTE: I just installed a brand new coil on the left side because I thought the left side coil was the obvious problem. However a good spark plug and good plug wire attached to the left coil still will not produce a spark when the engine is turned over.

What else do I need to do in order to find the source of this "no spark" on the left spark plug problem?

I am gonna guess that you need to pull the fly wheel and see what broke when it fell over.

I have a 9.9 that needs a new stator and was wondering the trick to pulling the flywheel?

Re: 7.5hp Mercury ignition question

Does anybody know of an on line source for Mercury outboard schematic drawings of parts assemblies for the 7.5 hp Merc so that I can see all of the patrs associated with the ignition system?
