I acquired a 7.5 merc that sat for 30 years inside. It appears in good condition, but I am guessing that I should be doing things to it before running it. Guessing there are seals and such that have dried out. Not sure of the year, but the serial is 3276477. Pointers on must do things? Haven't found a cross reference yet to the spark plugs AC V40FFK or what impeller it takes. Thank you

  • raw water impeller (need to measure your driveshaft BEFORE you order the raw water kit, as the small mercs use either one of two diameter drive shafts .438" or .456".
  • may need a carb kit
  • service the lower unit - seals, oil, etc.

Check for dry rotted fuel lines, probably best to just replace all of them !! Same for electrical wires and connections, check for dried out and cracked wires. Clean all electrical connections, change out the lower unit lube, no need to replace seals unless you find a leak. Water pump yes by all means !!
Carb probably, but you might just try a good cleaning first. Spray some lube into each cylinder and crank it over a few times. Good luck

The wiring looks good, the fuel lines look good - I would replace the impeller (the serial Nr. makes it a 1972 model) check for spark and see if it runs. I've run many motors in worse condition.

So it looks like Clymers would be a good enough manual from what I can tell. Also, I have an external fuel tank with original hose/fittings. Tank is in excellent condition. Are there updated lines that will work with the motor or do I need to piece out fittings, etc. Thanks again.
