I have a 14 ft jon boat with a 7.5 merc. I want to cut the front seat out and leave about six inches on each side for a cup holder. the boat will eventually wind up red to match my truck, with custom graphics on the side. carpet on the bottom and sides(interior) new seats new trolling motor. what do you think it will be worth after.(approx)

Seats in a jon boat are part of the supporting structure, you'll compromise the structural intergrity of your boat. I wouldn't do it.

Your boat will be worth a lot less after you cut it than it is now.

It might be a little easier to sell to someone that thinks it looks flashy, but not worth more.
Still competing against all the other boats out there on price and utility.

And prices are dropping.

If you destroy structural rigidity the hull will flex. Seams, welds and any rivets will loosen up and the dry side of your jon will become just another wet side.

Better to use the front seat as a base for a front casting platform. That will strengthen your hull.
