6hp restriction

Hi guys,

Ive just picked up a 1999 2 stroke 2 cylinder 6hp seahorse johnson and Ive been told its actually the same engine platform as the 8hp, just restricted back to 6hp. I was wondering whats involved in derestricting it back up to 8hp?

The carbs are different but I guess only the orifice sizes but rather crucially I think you will find that the cylinder and crankcase assemblies are different

I found the same when I looked at the possibility of uprating my slightly older 6hp.

I have a 6 because I wanted a 6 so no issue as far as I was concerned. If I'd wanted an 8 I would have bought an 8.
