6e9 40hp. automatic trim ???

have recentlky purchased an old, bit negected 40hp manual start. when i used it i noticed that the engine moved back on some kind of rods when i was excellerating but didn't move back to its original position. from what i can guess from common sense, this is like somekind of auto trim to get you into the plane, or, should not be happening. i am going to get a manual at some time but wondered if anyone can shed some light on this for me. it was quite stiff to start with but after some WD40 and greese it now moves quite freely back and fore but there is no spring or anything to pull it back when up on the plane. your advice is appreciated.

No automatic trim. It should lock into position. There should be a tilt release that would allow you to tilt it up. If the release is still engaged it might pop out of the water when you shift it into reverse, but there should be no movement in forward. I'm betting there is no tilt pin. It would go between the holes on the bottom of the transom clamps and you would set the trim angle with that.

Hi thanks for the reply. i know what your talking about and its not that. its probably best if i take a photo as i've not seen anything like it before and its not easy to describe. cheers. will post some soon.ere are some photos.

having trouble with pics. says too big. the movement is not at the middle of the leg where the trim pin is, but level with the bottom of the cowling. i imagine it alters the trim as pressure is applied to the prop to bring the bow down then returns to the starting possition when planing. can i be the only person to have come across this??? if i am i think this idea would work and need investigating LOL
