I have a 69 reinell and was working on cleaning the trim switch for outdrive (up and down). It shorted something and I heard a pop like a breaker or fuse but cant find a bad
one . the boat only has 2 noticeable fuses and their both good, also no lights now but the boat starts and runs fine....please, any help would be greatly appreciated. i'm sure frustrated trying to figure it out. Thanks

Re: 69 reinell trim switch

does the trim work?

the up down trim system is connected to a set of solenoids in the back....you might just have heard a solenoid firing.....that's all. so if it works....don't worry about it.

if it doesn't work.....take your test light......start under the dash......and check the trim system.....follow it to the back of the boat......the trim is a little pump thingy sitting in the back corner of the boat with hoses going to the very back wall of the boat.

just check the power to those solenoids.

No power at all to the pump or lights since it made popping noise. it worked before that but the trim switch was corroded and I was cleaning it up. It does start and run
though. Thanks for the help I will test the power.

Welcome to iboats!

Is the a fuse near the battery on the positive lead? That's the usual practice.

Re: 69 reinell trim switch

This is a 69 Reiell boat with a Mercruiser inboard outboard and a pump to raise and lower the trim.
The power meaning, the electrical to the hydraulic pump for the trim. the lights on the boat accually quit working at the same time something popped.
Sorry the motor I mentioned is the engine, It starts and runs fine.

Ayuh,.... Mercruiser used several different motors in 1969, 'n atleast a couple of different drives...
Tell Us, What motor, 'n What drive package ya got, 'n We'll try to figure out yer problem....

You can start by gettin' yerself a multimeter, 'n followin' the power from the battery to the trim pump, 'n to the lighting circuits...
The trim pump should be wired directly from the battery,...
Yer lights, I have no idea...
