69 merc 800 control problem

I just purchased this outbord owner said it hasent been ran sins 87 paid 170 for it.took awhile to get it started but got it going but cant fig out how the control cables go or witch ones witch on the control theres a big lever and a lil black lever can some one pls help me out

Welcome. The cable closest to the big lever (toward inside of boat) is shift, the cable closest to the lil black lever (toward outside of boat) is throttle. Or move the big lever out of neutral while watching the ends of the cable. First one to move is for shifting.

If this motor hasn't been run in 26 years, you have a few other things to do before hitting the water with it.

Well thank you like I said im new to this stuff so what other stuff should I be doing to this moter and whats a good sight where I can get parts my s/n is 2665506 thanks for all your help

Many of the rubber parts in the cooling system and fuel system are probably hard and brittle by now. Start with changing the water pump impeller and lower unit lube. Pay attention to the lube, looking for water. Fuel pump rebuild is probably needed. Might as well put new spark plugs in her.
