Hey,
I have been having shift problems lately with my 9.5. it shift into gear just fine, but when i throttle up, it kicks out of forward gear. I originally thought it could be the clutch dog, so i flipped it and I still had the problem. The shift linkage looked sound, however I don't fully know the correct adjustment. I decided to pull the foot again and look at the gearcase. I looked at my forward gear bearing and it is so worn that it's egg shaped. There is also no key in the keyway. I know it's stupid, but could this be the only problem I have with the shifting? I need to order a new one, hoping to find one used, but we'll see, thanks.

If the forward gear bearing is that worn, you can bet your boots the pinion bearing is too. The pinion bearing is the first to go. And it is not replaceable. Furthermore, the gear teeth are probably worn too, from being so out of alignment as a result of the worn out bearings. The whole thing will strip out someday. Best you look for a whole replacement lower unit.
