69 Johnson, 6hp water pump problems

I replaced the water pump in my 1969, 6HP Johnson. I fired it up and still no water comes out. I'm sure I put the impellar in correctly. I found out there is no thermostat where it is suppose to be. Could this be part of my problem? Where else should I check?

Insects and other objects can block the relief as well as the water tube. Try blowing the line with a compressor. If you don't have a compressor, try forcing water with a hose.
