Re: 69 & 72 6hp?

As far as I know the biggest changes for those old 6s came in 1966, the 2nd year of production. The prop, prop shaft and lower unit ?nose? changed. Also I think around 1977 they switched to CD ignition, plus the cowl & base changed shape for 1976 (that change happened in 1973 in Europe).

Functionally I can?t see any reason why a 1969 & 1972 couldn?t share parts.

I own a '65 and a '69, plus another one of a year that I can't remember - all the parts are pretty much interchangeable, with the exception of the aforementioned gearbox parts on the '65.

My guess is that the '72 will work just fine as a parts motor, but I also think TD has offered good advice with his link to shop.evinrude.com. Its a great site, because you can actually compare part numbers to see what parts are going to match up. That said, however, sometimes even parts with different numbers, will still fit and function just fine.

Go ahead and buy it. They are pretty much identical.
