two wires run from stator to rectifier does it matter which wire i connect to need to know if battery is charging when running motor

To test for amps you need to connect between the red terminal and the red wire the simplest is just hook a voltmeter to the battery and see if the volts increase.

trying to hook up a amp gauge thats on my console is it the red wire on the rectifier, i was thinking one of the two wires from the stator i dont know

You could tap into, and split the 12V+ dc from rectifier, but.....

The charging system you want to monitor is so minimal at best it may never even move the needle, nor without perhaps some fancy rewiring ever show discharge.

Me, I just use the voltmeter built into my fishfinder.

thanks for your help will change to volt gauge sounds better have one more thing with the tach where on the motor do i connect the wire to
