I ran a '64 9.5 Johnson on a 14-foot tinny for many years, and I've had a '54 10hp on the same boat. The difference, as you say, is like night and day.

50 years ago i had a 68 9.5 on a 8' Seaflea, with a brass 2 bladed racing prop and blades cupped . Blew the doors off everybodys 50 mercs on the lake. Had a couple since, on a small lite boat, you look at the wake behind the motor, it should be going a significant amount faster than that
