Alright so I have a 1967 Mercury 650 4 cylinder engine I have gotten the updated CDI box and rectifier all the wiring from the back was completely shot so I rewired it I can make the engine run and kill it by killing the power but it is to my best of understanding I am not supposed to just kill the power to the CDI box because it would cause damage to the CDI box rectifier and stator in the best of what I can tell I am supposed to connect the D&E Terminals on the ignition switch to kill the engine however not having any of the original color of wires because I have none of the original equipment is it okay to just ground out the trigger Where the mercury switch would have been connected to shut down the engine?

Kayablue - Moved this into the Mercury section. I feel it is more of a motor question.

I think I know the answer, but not 100% sure and not wanting to cause the motor any harm, wait for one of the other guys to verify.

Basically, yes. When the key switch is turned off, ground from "D" is connected to "E". From "E" through the harness to the mercury switch connection will shut the motor off. Wait for someone to verify because on some Merc 650's "E" connects to the switchbox at another terminal.

No you shut the motor off by cutting the power to the white wire - the red wire should still have +12v; if you disconnect battery from the rectifier while engine is running you can damage the rectifier.

Thanks 850. There are too many diagrams and the exact right one is needed. Breaker less, breaker less with ignition driver, Thunderbolt and these are all for Merc 650's.

Cut power to the white distributor wire or switchbox wire? Is this the correct wiring diagram for a 1967 Mercury 650 65 hp 4 cylinder engine ? I dont have any of the original wiring harness and the new CDI box has different color wires than the original switch box the new CDI box only has 3 trigger wires and one white and red wire that is power. so if I'm understanding you correctly if I kill the power to the CDI box by disconnecting the white red wire no harm will be done to the trigger assembly or Rectifier or stator? The serial number is 2164697 also if I connect the red and rectifier wire to the white and red switch box power supply I should have a working charging system correct?

And does anybody know an updated part number for an available trigger assembly?

Don't touch the trigger wires or the red wire; to shut off the motor you disconnect the white wire on the red and white side. No damage will happen if the rectifier red wire is permanently connected to any + connection. Post a picture of the CDI box for better understanding.

This is the exact CDI box I have three wires go to trigger and one is positive it eliminates the white or the red wire I'm not sure from the original CDI box can I just wire the rectifier straight to the positive post on the battery?

The starter solenoid has + all the time on one of the large posts, use a voltmeter or light to test.

Are you saying to wire the rectifier to the positive post on the starter solenold block to get the charging system to work ?
