67 degrees water too cold?

Here the air temps are over the 90's. Was thinking on the lake tomorrow. Went and check and saw many pwc and a hand full of boats doing tubing, everyone else was fishing or cruising. Parking lot was full. I did not see anyone in the water wearing a wet suit. I went in the ramp all the way till it ended and put my hand in the water. It felt quite cold. One of the fellow boaters had a fish finder with temp and it showed 67 deg. Do you guys think that is too cold to be in the water safely? We always use a floating device but if that is too cold to be safe I guess I will leave the water toys and swimin trunks behind and just enjoy cruising.
I know I can just go and check, but I dont want to look like a fool when I take my company prepared for swimming and it is unsafely cold... They will also be teens, a 13 y/o boy and a 16 y/o girl. I know it might be too cold to spend the entire day floating in the water as we generally do but if swiming/floating is safe I want to try it for a bit.

That being said, nearly everyone will find 67F water to be FREEZING! A more reasonable minimum temp for kids is around 75F. Keep an eye on them and if they start shivering or turning more blue than pink (lips, fingers) have them get out and warm up.

Most kids will still say that mid-70F water is cold, but they'll probably go swimming anyway. At 80F and above and everyone will be happy.

Hang on - it will warm up soon. :D

I just went swimming in my pool (90F air temp) and the temp was 68F. It surely felt cold when getting in, but after submerging I felt fine and had a blast.

Too cold for lounging in the water but not too cold to play!

If air temp added to water temp is anything over 100 degrees F, then hypothermia is not a risk for recreational swimming but hypothermia isn't the biggest risk, loss of muscle control will happen first. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to jump in to 67 degree water on a 90 degree day just to cool off for a bit. Anything below 60 degrees and you risk gasping for breath as soon as you jump in.

Sorry, I gotta laugh at this one. I open my pool when the water temp hits 65. I guess it's what you get used to. When we visited Florida a few years back, We were amazed they wouldn't open the pool until the water was 80. That's July water temp here. I guess that's life North of the Border.

I have seen 2 folks using ski whiz's on 48* lake Michigan in the past week, both guys wearing wetsuits with 200 horse performance ski's, little nuts IMO
