Found this 1966 Sunchief last week- hull, hardware and trailer look great. Owner says he posseses all engine components but block is cracked he thinks and it is completely dis-assembled... Would anybody venture a guess what it's worth as described or what you'd pay ballpark?View attachment 37371

total redo = price of scrap and maybe a little more for trailer, 400.00 tops.
But will be great boat if i was near it i would buy it.

Rhody honestly it really depends on where you are in the country out in the northwest that boat would be worth more than it is here in the midwest. I wouldnt go over $800 on it myself but thats just the area I am in . To get an idea of the potential she has look at Northbeaches resto in the completed restorations area on the main page of the site ( quite an amazing Boat he has ) . Looks like the guy has a few starcrafts sitting there as the one next to it looks like a cuddy cabin starcraft . Theres a few guys here doing those as well . Although Northbeach has commented he hasnt seen any other Sunchiefs .

Funny you say that- the guy is asking $800 and I figure he'll take a bit less. Trailer is pretty nice really and as far as I can tell the only thing with the hull is the deck and it's not that bad actually. There are all kinds of neat hardware accessories in good shape on this one that I really think add to the look. Yeah he has a 80's 19' Islander Cuddy that is pretty nice he wants 3k for it also no working motor (seized up) and a couple other tin boats
I've seen NB restore thread- what a beauty that Sunchief is huh???!!! Thanks guys too...

In the first photo on each side of the Out Drive are slotted fixtures- are they for inserting some sort of manual trim tabs or something???

Rhody I would walk up with 6 pictures of Ben in one pocket and the other 2 in the other just in case . The boat looks decent enough and 4 banger mercs are everywhere in rotten Glass boats .

yea ... i think 6 is plenty. but if you really want it you better go with that extra 200 inthe other pocket ...


or offer 5 and have 3 in the other pocket ... you never know, he may say ok .. good luck and let us know how you make out. scott

where are you from rhody ?? i may me interested in that trailer sitting beside " your " boat if its for sale and close enuff ... oh... and the right size, needs to fit an 18 footer scott

Well I'm gonna try like hell to get in cheaper as suggested. I really want the boat but sometimes obsess endlessly about these things. I have little experience in restoreation and am a bit of a hacker to begin with so I will have to quickly become a student of these forums and begin my own restore thread. Already getting excited myself can yah tell?
I do currently have an 18' Holiday that is used 2-3 times a week. I just put in a deck and sealed some leaky rivets but that was the extent of my abilities right there and dare not go beyond into unchartered territories without things like the tutorials found here.

I'm from Rhode Island- I think the guy said it the trailer is for a 21' center console glass boat that is slipped at a marina here for the season.

Rhody if you go to the user Cp at the top left corner of the screen you can go in and edit your profile to include your location and it will show up in the upper right of all your posts . Since you are a Starcraft owner it help the fellow Starcrafters to know what part of the world your in . Also make sure to check out the Get together threasd here we are planning for next summer.

4 banger mercs are everywhere in rotten Glass boats

Glad to hear that as I'll be starting to search for one when purchase the hull. Any good places to start looking ?

craigslist I see rotten glass boats daily on craigslist and nows the time of year to really start lookin nobody wants to store a rotten boat all winter .

Guy won't budge on the $800 price tage. I don't have to much of a problem with that really- is that really just way to much or something????
Beside the engine the boat is in very good shape and all the chrome looks like it just came out of the platers. The tandem trailer obviously has never seen salt water and at the most could take some new tires. Trailers themselves around here go for 5 bills every day of the week. I just don't want to con myself into thinking it's a ok deal when it's clearly not- so please speak up ok guys and don't hold back. Thanks for all the replies already too.
