64 Johnson 9.5 water pump?????

I have the part but I have no Idea where it is located????? I has been sitting for 2 years and I was told that I should replace it....

The waterpump is located on top of the lower unit (L/U). That is to say just above the joint above the fin above the prop. The driveshaft runs through it. To remove the L/U, remove the screws holding the L/U to the exhaust tube. This will allow the L/U to separate from the exhaust tube enough for you to unbolt the shift linkage. It should completely remove from there.<br />When you install the new water pump, be certain the key that turns the impeller is in place, so that the impeller turns with the driveshaft.<br />A service manual is just about the best investment you can make if you already own a set of wrenches. Yo Willie...first .....welcome to the iboats forum.<br /><br />Now....what part are we talkin' about? The water pump impeller? Or what.<br /><br />Two years is a long time without water motivation. Fill us in a little on what the problems are. We can help.<br /><br />Jim

willie hang on and get a good service manual. study it thoughly. the early 9.5 J/E motors rank among the hardest to replace a pump on. and lord help you if the water tube pulls free of the upper case. it is doable but most of the mounts and other pieces that like to break are no longer avalible. anyway a manuel is called for here
