64 Johnson 5.5 pulsing & losing power

My 1964 Johnson 5.5 is losing power and speed, especially at the top end. It doesn't often stall, but revs back up again for a few seconds before losing it again -- sort of pulsing. I can run it for quite a while at lower speed without any problems. I thought gas problems, but I've tried a new tank. I have been running 50:1 -- after reading some other threads I can see I need to go back to a quart. But first I've got to get 'er going! Thanks for any advice, Jack H.

sounds like either dirty carb, or a coil breaking up. or this go to (Carburetor Adjustments - Two Adjustable N/Vs)
