Hi, it seems im thread happy today but i just have issues. And this is a great site with alot of very helpfull people. Thanks in advance. My problem: Just got this little motor, paid $350 for it. It's very clean and runs great except when i go to open her up it acts as if its slipping out of gear and just revs out. Cut the throttle back to a trolling speed and it seems ok. I do have a manual, so what do ya think? Thanks again. Dean

Sounds like you've spun a prop hub. The outside of your prop is held to the inside by a rubber grommet and glue. That grommet can loosen up and give way at high speeds. It's kind of like slipping a clutch. Just to make sure, you should check your drive pin at the rear of the prop and make sure it's all there and properly attached. You'll probably need a new prop, or you can get that one re-hubbed at a prop shop.

That's a spun hub then. See what a prop shop wants to repair it.

If not a spun hub,you may just not have it deep enough in the water.

To test if for sure, draw a line across the hub and the prop, or use the cotter pin as a center line. Run the motor in the water until you hear it "rev", pull it out, and inspect the lines. If they are no longer lined up, your prop is spun. May want to consider new if the condition of the prop warrants it, or if it is still in pretty good shape, have it re hubbed as stated.

Spun Hub! That will be my next step on this motor, great tips thanks. If thats what it turns out to be it sure sounds better then what we were going to do, tear the l/u apart. Updates as they develop.
