I have a 1963 Johnson 5.5 that seems to run good but when put in gear the lower unit gets tight and it has no power. I read something somewhere that there is a slipper spring, or supposed to be, that allows it to slip if the prop hits something. I have taken mine apart and there is no spring, there is a coupler that will push apart and slip but it does not have a spring. Now it has pushed apart far enough that it has broken the piece that holds the impeller. Any guess as to what I am missing and how to fix it?
