Re: 63' 16' Jupiter.........Butchered

I think our claim to fame was a couple years ago when Hurricane Charlie, I think it was, made a second land fall here, after doing Fl first.

It's just a community in Brunswick county with a post office on rt 17, about 18 miles north of the SC border.

Andy, it plainly says Jupiter on the boat ID tag. That's all I'm going by.

I've noticed differencec in Jupiters posted on here also. The title says it's a 63', but I'm not sure it's not a 61', sold in 63'. The serial number is 61-8335.

Nothing's forever and I know Co's change things through out the years, even in the models. I could measure this boat and post bow to stern, and beam measurements to compare.

Whatever it looks like, it'll remain a Jupiter, as per the boat ID tag, but I'm thinking of making it a center console. Need to do a layout of where I can run chase tubes and see what size tubes will work, nothing smaller than 3".

you should easily be able to run some 3" tubes down the center of the boat.

Dang it's cold down here. Going into the mid 20's this morning. I was invited to go oyster harvesting in the morning. As much as I love oysters, I passed.

That's what I like about this area, it gets cold, but wait a couple day, not months, and it gets better.:D

Bob,

not only do i know where Suppy, NC is, but Sandra & i will be spending most of 01/10 on Oak Island at the beach-house (as we do each year).

unfortunately, due to the weather making the necessary repair/customizing work on MY "butchered" 16 footer nearly impossible (it's POURED nearly every day that i've had off.), i probably won't bring the Jupiter down this go-round.

one of the nice things about Starcraft tin boats is that they are cheap to buy, if you "poke around in dark corners" AND they are common enough that "customization"/"butchering" is OK, assuming that you have a clue as to what you are about.

fyi, mine came to me W/O windshield/seats/"decorative trim", with rotton floors, BUT with a good-running, old-model, Merc 35HP & a perfectly usable Dilly trailer for the sum of 250.oo. = it will be a complete "rockfishing machine", rather than a restoration, when i get it done.

NOTE: i'm looking for a complete/usable Homelite 55 to power the boat.

yours, PG

Homelite 55? Is that a 4 stroke?

Many peope don't know, but Homelite did make the first 4 stroke outboard. Didn't do much good though. At that time, gas was about .25 a gallon, and folks had no idea about the pollution of 2 strokes.

Maybe we can get up with each other and roast some oysters, or just shoot the breeze.

Bob,

the Homelite 55 surely is a 4-stroke & imVho the BEST of the "vintage engines" . - i used to have one & loved mine.

"big ugly" will QUIETLY troll all day "at walking speed" on about 2-3 gallons of regular pump gas & never get overheated/"foul the plugs"/"have a problem".

the SOLE problem with "big ugly" is they are "heavier than the average Buick".

Bob,

the changes in the engines after 1963 were MINOR, except for ownership of the plant.

Thanks for the heads up Bob. Great looking project boat, great platform and suitable for most any up fit.

I may have some VG aluminum pedestals for the project if you are interested.

Free for my friends, $10 each for you. :)

Seriously, let me know what your looking for. I even have a large fish box/livewell from my 24" SeaArk.

I even have a nice 2 cycle pump I got from a fellow, never ran an never would even turn over, I'll throw it in for good measure.

Sam
