I finally get my electical system figured out and the first time back on the lake I run approx 5 min close to full throttle and the "engine overheating" light comes on. I cut it off for a few min and then rode back in at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle with no problems. Any ideas? My prop is pretty banged up but I don't feel any cavitation. Any suggestion would be nice.

Hey broke....couple things....Check the water pick up and make sure it's clean. It's that hangy down thing under the cav plate. It's got a screen in it that can plug. If it's been a while or yer not sure how old the impeller is, change it out. Same with the t-stat.

Keep us posted.

Re: 61 Evinrude 40 HP Running Hot

Thanks for the help. I checked the water pick up and it's fine. I had the motor serviced and tuned up approx 9 months ago when a new impeller was put on and I've only burned 12 Gallons of gas since. I've got the Seloc manual but am unclear on how to check, service, or change the tstat. I could use some help on the tstat and any other ideas-I do have a 62 Lark IV 40 HP I bought for parts. Thanks.
