Hey all,
It seems there is not a whole lot of knowledge about Penn Yan's but I'll ask anyway. For the most part the ribs of the boat are oak which Ive began to replace. The gunwales forward of the front seat were rotten for which they will be replaced. I'm having trouble determining the type of wood that they are made of. The outside is very red and I was starting to assume it is a western red cedar although many say due to its softness that it would typically not be used as a rub rail. The gunwales are made of a few layers of wood which seem to be different colours even after sanding. This picture is the wood sanded and wet out with water to show the colours.Any ideas?
