I need some help and guidance in fixing a continous 2stroke oil leak on my outboard 60hp mercury. It's leaking continously also when engine shut off.
I located the leak to the oil injection pump and it's not the hose connections.
I thought it might be the oring between engine and pump but when I placed out paper underneath it rather seems as leak is closer to the spring/outer part underneath the pump. See attached picture.
So is this worth trying to buy oring or some seal or do I need a new pump?
Is this a common problem with oil leak from the actual injection pump?
Are there more seals and repairs to the pump that can be done?20230625_165520.jpg

Mine did that too. I ended up getting a used oil pump off ebay for cheap. It came off a newer motor than mine and has been working well for about 10 years now. I'm sure a lot of people will advise you to cap it off and premix. That would work too but I like the convenience the pump provides even though I locked mine down to mix at 50/1 full time.

Thanks for your reply. Wonder if my current pump is not able to repair or any sealing would solve it. So I guess buying new pump(expensive) or remove pump axle and run pre-mix are my two options.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I live in Europe and shipping is very expensive.
But I'll think i actually convert to pre-mix instead. But anyone knows if i NEED to order a block-off plate kit or if I just can re-install the pump again aftet removing pump shaft? Shouldnt the old pump do the same job as a plastic plate?
Once again, the shipping cost for a cover plate is more than the plate itself costs.

Yeah. You should be able to get away with leaving the old pump on. You should remove the oil tank and all the oil hoses. Cap off the oil port going to the fuel pump.

Maybe you could make your own cover plate out of a small piece of aluminum?

If you intend using the pump to cap off the casing hole be sure to remove the drive shaft. If the shaft is left in driving a pump with no oil the pump will seize and the shaft and will tear the crank shaft drive gear to pieces and the bits rip up the cylinder. I found that my drive shaft would not come out so I replaced the pump and all is well.
