third cylinder not kicking in,then behaves like it is overheating,has very good steam of water,could it be a coil?and how do you test them?

If the engine is run at high speed on 2 cyls it will over heat. I don't know which ign system you have because you didn't post a year but the easiest way to ck a coil if you have no test equipment is to switch coils if the engine has a switch box it could also be the problem
