Re: 60Hp Big Foot (2003)

Guessing as I have a 90 which is similar. On the starboard side of the engine should be a square potted module (1.5" square sort of thing) with 2 yellow wires, probably 2 reds, a grey, and probably a black. That is your rect/regl.

WillyBwright, Reelpoor, or Silvertip know what voltages to check for with the ac voltage in from the stator (yellow ac input from beneath flywheel), and the tach drive (grey).

If you can't raise them, I'd unplug the yellow wires and do a continuity check on/thru them. You should read some resistance; how much I don't know but if you have some resistance they are not open....like the flywheel may have cut thru one. Also, check them to ground for ground shorts. Should be no connection to ground.

They also know how to test the rectifiers for one shorted. I know Merc uses a bridge rectifier, but don't know which way the diodes are installed.

But I do know that if you ohm between each yellow input wire (both disconnected for this test, reading the module input) and ground, you should not read the same/similar low resistance, or short in BOTH directions. You should read a diode drop/block on each wire to gnd. If you get the former a diode is shorted and you need a need a new module.
