Hi,

I've got a '67 40hp Evinrude that needs some work. I've got a guy a couple hours away from me that wants to sell me a '60 parts motor. Does anyone know how well the parts interchange? I'm especially interested in the generator and the mounting bracket. The other problem I have with my '67 is scoring on the cylinder walls. How large can I clean up the cylender walls before I have to go to larger rings? If I do need larger rings, do I need to get larger pistons to go with them? Thanks for the help.

The generator should fit w/o problem but I'm not sure about the entire powerhead, if your are thinking of swapping them. If you want to keep the original powerhead but find that you need to bore it, .030 "over" would be the standard.

You might also surf the auction sites for usable powerheads. Your motor is common enough that you will probably find one with suitable compression values and general mechanical condition.

Thanks for the advice. If I do have to bore the cylenders, do I need to replace the pistons as well or do the oversized rings fit the original pistons?
