6 hp Mercury water flow problem.

I have a Mercury 6hp kiekhaefer serial number 1917272 (looks like the one in a youtube video that is a 1964, but the one in the video is a 3.9hp). There is a plug in a spot that says flush (it screws in). When I run the engine there is no water coming out anywhere, even if I take the plug out. I tried to flush it also, and no water comes out the screwed in vent plate on the very bottom of the shaft. Is it air cooled? Is there no water trail for this engine? I hope the answer to one of those questions is yes. Do I need a new water pump and/or impeller. I just bought it today, it starts great! However I don't want to let it run if there is no water flow. All input is welcomed

Your engine s/n comes up as:

6 60 2-cyl 1745521 1958277 1965 USA

Parts List:

It may not have had a P tube hooked up. See item 6 under CYLINDER BLOCK AND CRANKCASE ASSEMBLY which is a brass plug. This is where the fitting for the tube would fit.

You will see impeller, item 36 under GEAR HOUSING ASSEMBLY, COMPLETE and with is impeller in the water pump housing, it is definitely water cooled.

The "Flush" fitting is for that purpose, fresh water flushing of the engine.

Note, you should not run the engine when using that flushing port. It is only intended for flushing while not running. Run the engine in a barrel for testing and tuning.
