6 hp evinrude fuel problem

motor starts & runs well at high revs,but will not run at slow revs or idle.
can anyone help.the motor is a 1977 evinrude fisherman 6 hp

I assume you've tried to adjust the low speed needle (does a '77 have one?)

It might be time for a carb cleaning if not. It usually solves a lot of issues like that.

It does have a slow speed needle!

The initial setting is 1? turns out from ( gently) seated

If it wont idle at or near the initial setting then I agree carb clean almost certainly needed
