Hello,<br />needing some help. ive been given a 1970 55hp chrysler outboard. supposedly it was running when stored 4-5 months ago, but i cant get it to start after putting it on the boat. it is model 555ha s/n 4244. i have checked spark on the plugs by removing them and grounding the elcectrode while cranking. #1 plug has a visible blue spark in bright daylite, however it does not appear that #2 plug is firing at all. what type of ignition is this? point type under the flywheel? ive got to get a puller to remove flywheel to see. does anyone have any ideas to getting this thing running? does it have a coil? where can replacement parts be gotten?can it be as simple as cleaning points? i dont have a manual and not going to waste money on one if parts are not available. any help is apprecieated. <br />tks,<br />Doc

Parts are hard to find but availible. Describe the motor. Are the coils mounted on the rear of the motor or under the flywheel? If under the flywheel then it is Magneto. If on the rear it is battery ignition. Magneto ignition there will be points and condensors. Also coils. The coils for this motor have the plug wire and boots attached and have to bought this way. I believe they are still availible from mercury. Typcially the coil will burn open so you might be able to figure it out with a meter. Start swapping stuff around to see if spark follows anything in particular. If you swap the coil see if the spark follows same with condenser etc.
