I have a 55hp evinrude model#55873r serial#c581999 any one know what year it is, and I need to know what a good solvent to use in the lower end to flush the hydrolic shift pump::

That's a 1968 engine. Sorry, I don't have the Manual on that one. You need one, though.

i've used diesel on mechanical shifts to get the milk shake out. but, i don't think i would recommend it on and electric shift.

Diesel or mineral spirits will be fine. If you are trying to unstick a stuck pump piston, flushing probably won't help though.
