When we had to pay Health Care Premiums it was about $48/month, $85/month for families. Damn I hated subsidizing other people Kids. In the mid 2000s the Premium was eliminated

sorry to hear that Joe. I went through a lay off around 40 it still sucked. survived a second because management didn't realize how much time I had with the co.

now days people are always surprised when I tell them I have 0 loyalty to any job and that is exactly how much loyalty they have to me. (and any other employees)

So True, Large companies have no Loyalty to the people who do the work, but they sure have Loyalty to the do-nothing management
Mom and Pop companies are all over the map regarding loyalty

Most companies are "at will employment". They can basically lay someone off because they don't like your hairstyle on any given day.

At the same time, pensions are a rarity. Most retirement plans are 401Ks and stock options. So, a person can change jobs at will, there is no reason to have loyalty to a co. Just roll your 401K to a new co.

That being said, it still stinks they layed you off, Joe. It sure does look very suspucious.....

I thought they counted unemployment claims, which since I had a six months severance i just started pulling. Sucks, i was only able to pull in 5 of 6 weeks of that whopping $247 per week....

Hang in there, Joe. I'm permanently disabled at 59 and I get about 1/2 of my monthly bills from ssa. Getting a new found brain tumor zapped tomorrow. It's not too late for you to get a nursing degree. ;)

cost of living is double down here and we top out at $258 per week..... almost enough to cover cell phone, internet and car insurance per month. not enough to pay mortgage, put groceries on the plate or even gas in the vehicles.

dam dam...

Enjoy the trip as much as you can. We all go unfortunately and the score at the end of our game will be 0-1.

I ended up with one of the best friends I've ever had meeting thru THT boat forum (endoman for any of you that used to be on their) He got hit at 59 as well but couldn't have had a better attitude in his last year. He was a nurse, so he knew the odds. I (and two others from the forum) would fly down each week if they could, i did about twice a month and would sit with him.
