Can I use 5200 to fill in the space at the deck and hull joint? It would seal and provise cushion and flexability between the two.

It will never come apart again with 5200,I would use 4200 instead.Usually you screw or rivet the 2 together, install rub rail then run a bead of sealant along the bottom of the rub rail..

Ask any well estabilished yard that does major repair. 5200 can get brittle after 10-15 yrs, then it cracks under high stress. It's common on old sailboats (30'-50') that used 5200 on the hull to deck joint when new. Leaks, leaks and more leaks.

I am confused , between your question and the replies, are you asking about the joint where the top fiberglass mates to the hull or are you asking about the joint where the inner deck meets the inside of the hull?

When I replaced the deck in my 88 Four Winns, I used 4200 and stainless screws to attach the new deck to the stringers, and that seemed plenty strong, so I would think that it would work for your purpose. BTW, the original deck was just stapeled down, I pulled about a hundred or so nasty rusty staples out of that boat....no adhesive on the deck at all, just popped it up with a crowbar.
