Have barnfind '54 Model/Serial 15012 - 23506. Someone has been into top end (magneto area), and I' m not sure how to put the cam / key / flywheel back together.
Have straight bore cam w/keyway which slides over non-taper portion of crank. It sits below crank keyway against the crank bearing. What locks it to crank? There isn't a seal in the housing, which would raise cam, but then the cam would spin on seal?
Found a coil spring in a bag in shroud. Does this go below cam to raise it higher on crank?
HELP

Are there any "exploded drawings" of assembly.

The flywheel key does double duty of locating the flywheel and also the lower end drives the cam. Same system used on a bajillion other OMC motors. But the cam only goes down till it sits on top of the shoulder on the crank. If it is going clear down to the seal, you have the wrong cam.

rrichard. Thanks for the pic. I got a coil spring in a bag w/the motor. Is there a coil spring under the cam? Is it cone shaped? Which end is up? What does the bottom of the spring rest on?

Ah yes, you have one with a carbon seal at the top. Only used on the 15 a couple of years

#10 o-ring goes inside #9 carbon seal, and they slide down onto the shaft, against the bearing, with a drop of oil.
Then #8 stainless washer, flat side against the carbon seal
Then #7 spring, small end up
Then #6 stainless washer, flat side up
Then #4 cam.

When you install the flywheel, it holds the cam down against the spring pressure.

Adjust the points through the hole in the flywheel.
