50hp merc rev counter wiring

Can I wire a rev counter direct to this engine, most of the wires were cut when I got it so I had to run a new loom from a new control box,it is up and running now but I do not know what wires to use for the rev counter or if it will charge a battery. THANKS FOR ANY HELP> Engine No3237433
