The engine had no power,I took it one repair shop they cleaned the carbs and charged me 200 buck.I took it out and still ran bad.I took it to another shop, they were very helpful, they adved me that I need to have the carbs rebuilt,880 bucks!! We are talking about a 1999 50 hp 4 stroke, probably less then 50 hrs on it,and these two times are the only times anyone has touched it,they also told me that 3 or 4 bolts are cross-threaded on another part of it,dont know exactly where, have to go talk to him after work. This isnt right for a motor that isnt enough 3 years old! Does anyone know who I could talk to at Mercury?? I bought it from bass pro,it is on a deep V 17' bought from bass pro.Do you thing I should go to them??

Talk with them all. Bass Pro, Mercury and a Lawyer. Being 3 years old is the only negative side of it. I would also be chewing on a mechanic who charged money w/o results. That is unheard of for a 3 yr old motor unless it has been neglected. In short this will probably get uglier before it is over with a whole bunch of finger pointing.
Bob

Absolutey f n a right. I would if it were MY 3year old motor! My first finger would point at Bass Pro.I've heard lotsa good things about that outfit, and I am under the strong impression, that they stand behind thier sales.
Keep all your documentation,(reciepts ect),and take notes and names of all those you corespond with....880buks for a carb rebuild????

Picked up the boat and the tech told me the manifold bolts for the air sillencer were cross-threaded,so the first tech that cleaned the carbs, had to take them off to clean the carb!! Giving him a call now!!!
