50 hp johnson with no spark. PLEASE HELP!!!

If this has been asked before im sorry but i couldnt find the right answers im looking for.
We have a 1974 50 hp Johnson outboard that we cant get a spark to. We have tried 10 different coils (most has TINY cracks in them but.. anyhow). We got a powerpack off of another motor and tried it and still no spark.
We have all the wireing in the right spots but we can not get a spark.
We pulled the flywheel and cleaned off the points and the flywheel by using 1500 grit sandpaper. STILL nothing
We might be going today to get a timer base to see if thats the problem but we are not sure how to get the old one off and put the new one on?
Is there anything else we should test before switching the timer base?

Edit: also the stator has been replaced at some point. (newer looking and you can see where the older one had been melted down)

Why not order new coils, cheap enough.
Crtacked coils are usually shot.

I dont know if your engine has a lanyard or kill switch in the ignition..etc.. but no spark anywhere???... I would be looking at the kill circuit first....that will hold spark out no whater how many components you swap..new or old...

Crtacked coils are usually shot.

We have new coils now.
they are used but only on the river a couple of times then the motors rods started knocking. the guy had bought them brand new. he gave them to us for free.

Yea. we disconnected the kill switch wire and still no spark at all.

disconnecting it is good...but did you check to see if its grounded??.. reason i say this is my key switch grounded mine out intermitently..so I unplugged the harness to take it out of the circuit.. then o ohmed the wires and founs it grounded at the key switch..

so do check the kill to ground.. and see if its shorting anywhere else..before you go replacing costly componenets..

check the kill at the powerpck to be sure its not grounded there...

its not grounded there.
Luckily we probably wont have to pay anything for the timer base. got to talk to the guy about it and then go take it off the motor.

we switched the stator out and still had no spark.
Now it will not even crank over.. we think it might be the battery.

Also, not that easy for my income. I get 13.78 every two weeks for delivering papers. Im only 16 years old. I also get some money from doing little jobs for people and mowing. Cant find a good paying job for a 16 year old

You are doing a lot of parts replacing not knowing if the parts are good or not.
You need to invest in an OEM manual to help you troubleshoot your problem.
The manual will cost a little money, but it will ansewer a lot of questions and help you fix your engine properly.

I commend you for trying to tackle this being 16 an all.. but these guys are right about the manual. It may set you back 30-60 bucks..but its worth evey penny.

ask the parents for a loan, or collect cans or whatever.. you will save a ton of money by knowing whats up with that motor.

in case you didnt know.. the stator is what picks up the voltage from the spinning flywheel magnets....then that power is sent to the powerpack to then send it off to the charging coils and eventually shoot the spark. what determines when the spark happens is the timer base, which mind you is under that flywheel too..so in all there are 4 different things happening at once in a specific order.. if you already changes tha stator and disrupted things under that fly wheel then you may not have put it back together right. (i dont this for sure) but i'm betting its possible.
the flywheel also has a key, if its sheared it will throw timing and all sorts of stuff off..

in short, a manual is your best friend...

I've read on here that you need 300 rpms on the flywheel for the stator to supply 300 volts to the power pack. A weak batter won't give you that. Also, how are you turning it over, with the key?
