Hi Everyone,
I have a used (new to me) 16ft aluminum 1971 Starcraft with a 50hp Johnson "Super Seahorse" model VXL-11A.
The boat and engine are fine, but the steering has to be redone. I had the old pulley system. I would like to either get a new pully system. I would need the master pulley under the steering wheel with all of the accessories.:% Or I would like to go to a new model of steering, but the engine does not have a "hollow tube", but it does have tiller bar with a place to lockdown a clamp. Pic of the tiller bar on Johnson engine -> http://www.thefrostedmug.biz/motor.jpg
Any help would be appreciate as I have been checking online for two weeks and have found no one to answer my questions.

Thanks,
Onyx

you can pull all the old stuff off, save every piece, you would be surprized what it will sell for on ebay, restorers love them include the steering wheel. teleflex had the modern steering system that wiil fit. it comes with a bracket that mounts on the transom, that hold the tube, and an adapter are to connect to the engine. you just have to specify the engine. i had a 73 with this new set up and it was really sweet. you can call iboats store, they have a direct link with teleflex to get you set up.

Thanks tashasdaddy, Like I said..I'm a true novice and living up in Wisconsin I don't even look at my boat until late may...about the same time I start lurking around here:) The steering works great! Although I will suggest to everyone looking that you put the cabling on the side the directions tell you; I had every thing reverse for a while...I'd turn left and to right. :)

I wish I was the sort of person that would just come back online to say thanks again, but I do have a problem. I need to find a distributor cap for my motor. I talked to the local marine shop (very small town) and the kinda scratched their collective head and said we don't sell anything that old. They also thought it was not a 50hp, but probably 80hp. I tried going to a few marine parts places online where they asked for the serial number....J2600679; The only thing I do know is that I don't know anything.

Any help form anyone is appreciated,
Thanks,
Damian
