i have a 50 hp force i think it is a 89 model. someone told me the power pack was bad. i do know that one coil is not getting spark. i switched the leads around and both coils are good. one letter i read said that you could use a GM module and it would work. if it does i need to know how to wire it up and what kind of module i need to get

When you find ouit, let me know also. Those OEM Force CD packs are very expensive.

Before you buy an expensive power pack, make sure the ground to each is good. I had the exact same problem last year. Something as simple as a wire not tight enough with a little corrosion.
I got a power pack through Boat US warehouse in Ft. Lauderdale. If you are not a member go find one, like I did. Cost was 1/2 of one from Merc.
It's a CDI module so the quality is better that
Merc to boot.

Good Luck.

st Jhons River Rat is correct. Those black wires going to the mounting bolts on the CD packs must make perfect connections, or your motor will do some extremely crazy things, like fire on one cylinder, fire on no cylinders, or tilt motor will quit. I've had the temp alarm make a faint noise at the same time.
-Here is a link to the post explaining what I went thru-
The latest for me was the tilt motor. It drove me slap up a wall, and i spent 6 hours looking for the problem. the good news? My ignition returned...And here, I thought I'd have to change-out the CD pack!

Trade the wires from your stator down to the bracket where they all tie in on screws. The stator is a 4-wire setup. 1 and 3 are one screw and 2 and 4 are on another screw. Check all the connections there. The 50's and 125's (same stator) are famous for breaking a wire or connection right there at that spot.
