50 Horse Shift problems

My 50 hrs johnson won't shift into forward. I've adjusted the cable as far as will go, and it just won,t go into forward. It will go manualy. Any sugestions?

what year, model #? has the lower unit been off just prior to this starting?

I think its a 1981, The lower unit was off and rebuilt but it worked fine after that. this just started

What do you mean by, "It will go manualy."? Do you mean it will go if you shift it at the motor? Is the cable broken?
