5 liter Mercruiser wont Idle

I have 2002 5 liter Mercruiser that will not idle. The issue just happened today. The engine will not start unless I give it throttle and will run fine at higher RPMs. It will stall when the RPMS are brought back down to idle.

I'm thinking this is a idle control value issue. I would like some conformation.

is carb or efi?

if efi, yes possible the IAC is faulty but could use some more info

mpi engine, is likely the IAC even without any fault codes. it is a common failing item and your symptom fits the description of one kind of IAC failure

only way to know for sure is by using a computer with proper software to identify any fault codes and looking at data items, specifically IAC position/counts
