5 hp mariner carb bogs down

Hi everyone
i have a 5 hp mariner and i just cleaned the carb because it had sat a while
after cleaning it it starts but when i give it gas it bogs down...........if i open the throttle i have to wait a few seconds before it reaches top speed i also have a little gas spitting from the carb. while it was running i sprayed the carb base with carb cleaner and it dies out any help would be greatly appriciated
