I have acquired a 5 hp Wards Sea King.
The manufactures name is worn off of the plate, but has these numbers stamped on it.
J500 11060
372133
XTV 27005B
It is air cooled, and I suspect that it was made by Clinton.
I have two questions, what is the proper fuel to oil ratio for this engine?, and does it use 90 w in the lower unit?
It has two screw plugs in the housing.

Thank You

Howdy heratio.

Welcome to iboats. :)

Can't help you with the year, but you want to use a 24:1 ratio with chainsaw oil for fuel mix.

The foot uses 90W.

Good luck. :)

I just got a 5HP clinton J500 1101b ser 370793
lower unit looked like it was packed with wheel bearing grease. I heard that I should use lubriplate 205 for this engine.

Outboards that are direct drive, ie. no gearshift for FNR, where you pivot the motor 180 degrees to get reverse, are best serviced with Lubriplate 105 engine building grease rather than lube/oil used in later gear-shift outboards. Either way, if you ever find water in the LU, time to replace the seals or take corrective action.

J500 appears in 70 and 71. My after market manual indicates gear case uses outboard motor gear lube.Fuel mix:: indicates a quality outboard motor oil.48:1 ratio on 5hp up.My research indicates TCW3 oil may be used for all 2 stroke applications.
