Re: 5.8L oil pan

So, is this a joke or are you just uncertain of what you have and motors in general?

5.8 = 354 cid essentially. Don't recall a GM engine of that size. Ford had 351 and 352 but I don't recall 352's used in boats. I think I do recall someone on the forum with a 351 Ford engine in a boat.

No doubt you could use a Ford pan on a GM engine but you should probably be pretty good at welding and reforming sheet metal if you intend to try it.

Re: 5.8L oil pan

A 1991 OMC 5.8 is a Ford engine. 351 cubic inches. How does that equate? It doesn't. Chevy had the 350. Ford came out with a similar sized engine, same bore, slighty longer stroke, 351. When it all changed to "litres,", Chevy had the 5.7 so Ford went with the 5.8 moniker. Back to the original question, yes a Ford 351 pan is what you need. However, it might be unique to the marine engine depending on where the sump is and the capacity, for the cars that was dependent on the body style, something off of a truck is probably your best bet. If your scouring the wrecking yards looking at one if it looks the same and has similar dimensions I'd use it.

Re: 5.8L oil pan

Thank you all,

It is a Ford 5.8L 351 windsor, sorry to all confused, I'm new at this and did not know how specific I have to be.

Just wondering if the Marine oil pan has any baffles to prevent oil starvation in acceleration and cornering? Or is that none issue?

Looking at this again, I think what happened is that I read OMC as being GMC and thought what the h*** is he trying to do??

So did you find a pan to use. IF so what year and model did you go with.
I need a pan also for my boat 5.8L 1993. I have been looking and so far all the drain plugs are on the bottom and not the side, to accomidate the dip stick.
