I’ve got a Mercury Quick Silver 3 wire sensor on the way. I’ll also make some jumpers to ensure solid power connections, and disconnect everything possible to isolate any potential damaged wire. Hopefully I’ll finally solve this. I’ll post an update next week.

Have you read my write up on the Thunderbolt system?

Yes. I have the service manual for the Tbolt system and setting the timing has never been a problem.

Ok here’s update. Jumper on the + to the coil no change. Jumper on - on the ignition ground wire no change. Disconnected all other wiring connections to the ignition system no change. Replaced the ignition sensor in the distributor and presto, problem solved! Took it out for the day and rode it hard. Slalom skied, wake boarded, no problem at all. What a relief! Thank you all for all the help and feedback. Much appreciated.
