5.7gs coolant temp sensor

New to me 5.7GS PEFS engine. I am looking to replace the coolant temp sensor on the side of the thermostat housing. When i do a parts search from Volvo Penta it gives me 3850397 but that is not the one that i currently have. My sensor is with the flat connector for only one wire and the part from Volvo has a connection for a pigtail. Am i missing something?

The one your finding is the ECM sensor, the one with one connection is the gauge sender. The gauge sender has no effect on the motor, it's just there as a visual aid for the driver

Look for a standard 240-33 ohm sender

Sounds like possibly the 2 temp sensors are swapped backwards if you have a 1 wire at the thermostat housing as it's normally found on the starboard sideish intake manifold area as seen with VP part number 3852029 item number 20, https://www.volvopentastore.com/Intake-Manifold/dm/store_id.366--view_id.779268

You mention a flat spade? connector, if you image search the 3852029 some try to come up along with the design I imaged above.

The one for the manifold is correct already installed. What i dont understand is why 1 wire only from factory and on the diagrams shows pigtail. That makes buying parts a whole lot of fun. Even if i where to buy with pigtail that would leave 1 wire left without a clue to where it would connect to. Would anyone have a wiring diagram for 5.7gs?

Correct, and yet somehow i have in the thermostat housing a spade switch and connector. I found the wiring diagram for 5.7GS and indeed does show only 1 wire connection. #15 on the pic
