Re: 5.7 Rebuild

My mechanic wanted 15-20 hours to convert everything over on to a fresh long block. At $80 per hour, plus any new parts etc. So...I bit the bullet and am doing it myself...LB was $1550 delivered with no core charge. Saving some bucks and it's actually been a good learning experience! Hope this helps...

Re: 5.7 Rebuild

Our 96 5.7 MPI was rebuilt 3 years ago for $3400. Keep in mind this included manifolds, Alternator, oil pump & pan, flywheel and a few other things in addition to the "standard" rebuild. With that said i've learned quite a bit about rebuilds, the shop who performed the work did a heck of a job, second, there are many components that have gone bad simply due to time, ie. remote oil lines, cooling hoses etc that were not addressed during the rebuild. From a post mortem perspective, i would have replaced any component that is/was difficult to access once the motor is back in place. Hope this helps!

Depends! Saltwater or freshwater? Doing any transom work? Doing any drive work? Is all your "tin" in decent shape? How about the manifolds & risers?
They could probably get the rebuild itself done for 3500-4000. Plus labor
