Re: 5.7 EFI shift interupt

hello everybody...

just another updated news.

today i use the boat all day, running Wide open throttle all times WITH the jumper wire on the shift interrupter switch...guess what not one hesitation, tach steady all the time and no popping on top speed. I guess i can order a new shift interrupter switch (mine is the new model, plug type, mounted on the plate)...a couple times i was have a hard time to get the boat to neutral with the jumper wire on, but its all good...im happy now....

I appreciate all of you guys, specially Don, with all his knowledge, great help.

Great learning experience....love it.

Se if you cant take it appart and clean the the contact surfaces from oxid.
I took the old style interuptor apart and changed the contact parts and sealed it up. It was done in about half an hour.
Glad to hear you found the problem!!!

Re: 5.7 EFI shift interupt

when i put in the water and drive for a good hour, then sits after 3 hours, after that i head home, driving for 20 min tach starts jumps and popping occurs not allowing me to go over 30mph, and i cant read the tach bounces all over.

When your "letting it sit for 3 hours", do you have the ignition key on (maybe listing to the stereo)? The reason I ask is if your key switch only has "Off" & "Run" positions (No Accessory position) then your powering up your hole ignition system as well as powering your accessories. When the engine is not running (using power from the coil) it will cause the coil get screaming hot, I've seen them get so hot from this that the oil boils right out of coil. If the coil is getting hot then it would cause the issues your describing.

Ok, if it goes into one of these "missing, backfiring" fits again, take note of how hot the coil is....

If it was the coil, bypassing the shift interrupt switch wouldn't have anything to do with it. You no doubt found the problem.
