sounds like carb flooding. when you shut engine off look in carb and see if you see fuel dripping in barrel of the carb. you can also try holding throttle wide open when you try to crank, to help with the flooding.

let us know what you find..deadstick

It Turns Over Pretty Good, It Just Acts Like Its Not Getting Any Fire

check to make sure your choke is all the way open when it is hot. Also take the flame arrestor off, take a quick ride and shut it down and see if the carb is dripping fuel.

ok, when its starts to crank does it all the sudden crank, like nothing was wrong or does it sputter a couple times when this is happening..

what im trying to ask is when it is hot and you are having problems with it cranking. the motor is spining and "bam" it cranks.(like turning on a light switch)

or you spin engine over and it spits or sputters a couple of times, before cranking.

Re: 5.0l Thunderbolt Mercruiser

Hi, funny thing is I have the same engine on my boat and have exactly the same problem!! Its been driving me insane and have been talking and reading everywhere about it but have not found a solution yet. Tried all the basics, changed spark plugs, leads, starter motor, checked timing etc... but nothing changes!!
At home with ear muffs starts in no time, in water after short use... engine struggles to start!!! turns over fine but takes a long time to start. And only starts if given full throttle!

"Celebrety192" I would love to know if you found a solution!?!?!?!
Or anyone else might know what it is........
