Is there a direct replacement alternator ? From the automotive side of things?

Do not use ANY automotive ALT on a boat, they are not ignition protected. Using one can cause an explosion.

You don't have to use a VP ALT many make marine equivalent types

Most cities have electric motor repair shops which can fix for a lot less then buying another
