Re: 5.0 to 5.7

It would be a great time to put a 350mag in to the boat.
I was very close to buying a 2004 model year (closed-cooled, 400 salt water hrs) 5.7MAG MPI (300hp) + Bravo I for my Liberator when I found the 454/Bravo III.

I am going to guess that it probably would have performed OK. The guy wanted almost $2500 more ($7500) than I actually paid for the 1997 (122 non-salt water hrs) 454+III combination so I think I really "scored"!!

If you replaced your 5.0L engine with a 300HP Mag MPI 5.7, you would notice a significant improvement in hole-shot (if you re-propped for MAX RPM @WOT)

But just putting a carbed 350 probably won't make a huge difference......

Re: 5.0 to 5.7

I would only do EFI to EFI. I currently have a 5.0 Fuel Injected which is rated at 260HP. I would be replacing it with the 5.7 Fuel Injected rated at 300HP. This is what I am thinking

Michigan Mororz 5.7 long block $2,300
New manifolds and risers $1000
New ECU (for 5.7) $400

Everything from the 5.0 should just bolt to the 5.7 right?

If so im sure I can sell my good working 70 hour of use 5.0 long block for a decent amount
I would also be selling the 5.0 ECU for cats and the manifolds and cats (may have to sit on them for a bit until people need to start replacing their stuff.

Other idea is to just keep my manifolds and cats get the peoper 5.7 ECU for cats and just swap the blocks and ECU

Or keep the new cat exhausts as they do not rob the engine of any power and check into reprogramming the ECM through Mercruiser factory that has to be sent in by a Mercruiser dealer or see if Whipple Industries can make the needed changes. But do yourself a favor and don't just stop at the 5.7, check into a 6.2l/377, 383 Stroker engines as well.;):)

Yeah. I would absolutely do a 383 stroker engine.
